Bathroom decoration: we develop the design ourselves

One of the most visited rooms in a private house or apartment is the bathroom. Therefore, it should be functional, comfortable and beautiful. This list of requirements makes bathroom design a daunting task. Considering that its area is rarely large, you have to solve a puzzle: how to squeeze in everything you need, and even so that it looks harmonious. Nevertheless, many modern materials and plumbing allow you to successfully cope with the task.

What should be in the bathroom

The widest choice of plumbing and furniture does not allow us to set a rigid list of what must be in the bathroom: there are too many options and variations. You can only designate the necessary functionality, and what it will be provided with is your choice.

So, in order. There is definitely a place where you can wash yourself. It can be a shower, bath, jacuzzi. The second required element is the sink. It can be wall, console (pipes are hidden in the wall), corner. There is also a mirror and shelves. They can be combined in one piece of furniture or a set of separate items. You need hooks or hangers for towels, shelves and shelves for placing cosmetic, hygiene products.

This is the minimum set of items that should fit in a bathroom.

Everything is complicated by the fact that in an ordinary standard apartment there is often simply nowhere to put a washing machine, and they have to put it in the bathroom. Another difficulty is a combined bathroom, when the bathroom is also a toilet at the same time and it is necessary to look for a place for additional plumbing.

Sometimes it is even possible to put a washing machine in a small bathroom.

From all this set, as well as finishing materials and lighting, the interior of the bathroom is formed. The main difficulty is to make everything "fit" and look harmonious at the same time.

Planning and design

At the very beginning, even before the first trips to the store, you will have to do drawing. This is necessary so that later it does not turn out that the carefully selected plumbing simply does not fall into the place allotted for it or requires a thorough alteration of communications. Therefore, we arm ourselves with a bathroom plan on a scale, mark the doors on it, a window, if any, indicate the connection points of the water supply, sewage, mines ventilation.

On this plan, you need to place all the items that you plan to install. To do this, cut them out of cardboard on the same scale as the room and simply move them, trying to put everything together. As a result, you should have a plan similar to the one in the photo.

If you are comfortable with office equipment, you can use one of the design programs (if you find a demo version). With such a plan, you can find out what sizes you need furniture, bathroom, sink.

Color solutions

The choice of bathroom color is the main point of design development. In many ways, it is dictated by the size of the room. The rules remain the same:

• light tones visually expand the space, dark tones narrow;
• borders around the entire perimeter and a clear border of light and dark shades visually make the room lower;
• if you make the walls and ceiling of similar shades (light) without clear boundaries, the room will be perceived as taller and more spacious.

All this does not mean at all that the design of a small bathroom should be monochromatic and monochrome. Not at all. Color accents are possible and even necessary, but light colors should prevail in the interior. This is not bad at all: a bathroom design in dark colors, even with a large area and good lighting, is almost always gloomy. In addition, such a design can get bored in a few weeks: saturated shades are too pressing on the psyche.

The photo above is decorated in a chocolate color. With an abundance of light, a white ceiling and light tiles on the floor, it looks gorgeous. A large mirror almost over the entire wall also saves the day: it visually enlarges the space. Dilutes dark colors and white textiles. But if he is not, it will undoubtedly be dark and gloomy.

Bathroom lighting

When choosing luminaires, pay attention to the protection class: they must be designed for use in damp rooms. This means that the protection class must be at least IP44. Only in this case the bathroom lighting will work for a long time and without problems.

When developing a luminaire layout, several lighting zones are most often made: a common ceiling and several zones brought out to separate switches. Several lamps near the mirror are a must, but you can also make a bathroom or shower stall light.

There is a very interesting design move - to make built-in shelves and highlight them. Since the walls are mostly tiled, the effect is unexpectedly interesting. The lighting from the bottom of the bathroom or sink looks good. They are partially covered with a screen, and behind it a backlight is installed, you can also color (from LEDs or LED strips).

The lighting design of the bathroom is one of the key design points: well-chosen fixtures combine everything into a single whole. One of the ways is to install lamps with a narrow stream of light, they create glare on the tiles, which are reflected in the mirror and faience.

Modern design of a small bathroom

Decorating a small room is always a more difficult task. The functionality of the bathroom does not change from the size and you have to invent something to make it beautiful and comfortable.

One way is to use glass. For example, glass sinks. If you install a bathroom, a toilet and a faience sink in a small room next to it, not only will everything stand back to back, and everything will look like heaped into one heap. You can also use glass partitions. It is generally unrealistic to put a wall in a small bathroom, but it is somehow necessary to separate the area. Glass solves the problem: it takes up a minimum of space and does not visually reduce it.

Another way is to install console plumbing. All its "stuffing" is hidden in the wall. All that remains is the sink or toilet, which. Visually, they don't look so big. There is also sinks that are installed above the washing machine - in small apartments, finding a place for the installation of large-sized equipment is a problem.
