Textured wall paint is an ideal replacement for wallpaper
Many have seen walls painted in terrible colors, and sometimes with peeling paint. It is no coincidence that wallpapers became very popular, with the help of which it was possible to cheaply give the walls an attractive look and individuality. Progress in the field of creating and improving paints and varnishes does not stand still - modern textured paints are replacing paints from Soviet times.
Textured paint - a decorative coating that allows you to get various reliefs on the surface (up to 3 mm deep), which depend only on the skill and imagination of the performer.
It was textured paints that began to be preferred over wallpaper, since they have a number of undeniable advantages:
- the coating hides minor wall defects, therefore, does not require careful surface preparation;
- has high hardness (used as anti-vandal);
- water and weather resistant;
- vapor permeable - the walls will "breathe";
- can be used on facades and for interior decoration.

This is not a rusty sheet of iron - this is a Steel finish created with Dali Textured Paint! It all depends only on your imagination!

Where can I see coating samples?
Perfectly it is better to evaluate the approximate result live... If a store specializes in the sale of textured paints, then, most likely, samples should be presented.

Store sample of applying textured paint Lacra with a roller. Immediately, we note that even a person without special painting skills is able to make such a fur coat (see the video below)
The video uses a "rough foam" roller. It is more rigid and dense than normal. The structure is cellular, with an average size of 2-3 mm.
If it is not possible to see samples in the store, you can view the possible options on the Internet. We have compiled a small selection of photographs illustrating the possible effects.

Various paints and prices
The following textured paints are heard:
- Alpina
- Dali
- FARBE
- FARBITEX
- VGT
- Lacre
- Latek
- ProfiLux (Profilux)
- Tex

ProfiLux textured paint for facades and interiors is the cheapest textured paint. In the Leroy Merlin chain of stores, a 14 kg bucket costs about 900 rubles. It is immediately necessary to pay attention to the fact that the protection of facades is only up to 3 years. Manufacturers of more expensive paints claim that their products provide protection for up to 10 years or more.
The video below uses ProfiLux textured paint.

Lacra is an inexpensive textured paint. A bucket of 18 kg can be purchased at a price of 1200 rubles. From the category of "cheap and cheerful"
Now you will not surprise anyone with a wide range of prices for the same product. Paints are no exception, so do not rush to order textured paint in the first online store you come across. For example, let's see what can be found on the Internet and at what price.
There are still a large number of home improvement stores that are not represented on the Internet. Accordingly, you can find out about the presence of a particular product in them only by visiting the store.

In a small hardware store, the same DALI-DECOR Faktura paint costs almost 500 rubles less. With large volumes of work, you can significantly save

Don't be surprised if you come across DALI-DECOR paint Texture in a black bucket - packaging design has changed since 2020

VGT Galleru textured paint is very popular. A bucket of 18 kg can be purchased at a price of 2000 rubles
Color palette of paints
As a rule, textured paints are available in a white base. The desired shade is achieved through the use of highly concentrated tinting pastes or tinting paints. You should use textured paint and color scheme from the same manufacturer.
- Dali universal tinting paints
- Dali universal tinting paints
- Dali universal tinting paints
- Universal tinting pastes Lacra
- Dali Universal Color Pastes
- The more choices the better. Buy paint and color scheme from one manufacturer
The decorative layer obtained with textured paint can be painted over. That is, you can first apply textured paint without adding color, and paint on top in the desired color.
Facade paint is applied in one layer. For coloring the decorative layer, paints with a lower consistency are used, for example, DALI-DECOR BASE.

How to apply (video instructions)
Before starting work, be sure to read the instructions for using textured paint on the packaging. Consider the following important points:
A 15 kg bucket may indicate that it will be enough for 20 m² - in reality it may be enough for only 10 m². Consumption of 1-1.5 kg per square meter is common.
Do not dilute the paint in excess of the norm - if it is indicated that you can add no more than 5% water, then you should not add more, in the expectation that the paint will be enough for a large area.
When tinting manually, the entire volume of paint required for work should be tinted at once, otherwise there is a high probability that you will "miss the color" when tinting the next batch of material.
Textured paint can hide minor defects in the substrate, but what are minor defects? Since the paint has a high consistency, it will cope with microcracks without problems. Do not try to hide the relief stripes 1-2 mm - they will be perfectly visible.

The surface of the wall was not properly leveled, moreover, the textured paint was diluted with water in excess of the norm. After applying with a roller, the result was terrible. Do not make other people's mistakes!
The method of applying textured paint depends on what is ultimately required to be obtained. Below are several videos demonstrating how to get one or another coverage.

Tools
Below are all the tools that may be required when applying textured paints. The composition of the set depends on the type of decorative coating required.
- Velor roller and paint tray
- Decorative roller
- Narrow spatula
- Wide spatula
- One or two Venetian trowels - depending on the surface
- Grater with fine-grained sandpaper M 50
- Wide brush
- Construction mixer or drill with special attachment
Brief conclusions
- Textured paints open up new horizons for creativity.
- The coatings are strong and durable.
- If you wish, you can create a unique effect with your own hands using a minimum of tools.
There is some kind of confusion with all these paints and plasters, the sellers in the stores cannot figure it out. They asked in one of the stores about the textured paint Lacra - the sales assistant pointed to the same sample as in the article, but when asked where the paint itself was, he pointed to a bucket of plaster with a grain effect. The rollers show that both paint and plaster are applied with a trowel, the consistency is also similar. The campaign is almost the same, but under a different name.
Well, in general, the coating with a textured effect looks really cool. At first I thought of finishing the loggia with plastic, but decided to paint it with textured paint. Now, in general, many refuse plastic because of its non-environmental friendliness.
As far as I understand, decorative plaster can be applied with a thicker layer than textured paint. Take the same bark beetle - this is a thick coating, you cannot make it with paint.
I liked how they work in the video with Dali paint, I decided to try it too, but here's an ambush - I found Dali paint in Volgograd, but Dali Base paint is also needed, but it is not there. Nor is it in the stores indicated on the manufacturer's official website. There is no desire to write out via the Internet - if something is not enough, you will have to write it out again. While I am looking at Tex products, at least in our stores you can find a full line and not break your head again.
What can you say about Tex?
I will not say anything. He stood, thought, looked at how the tinting machine was turning a bucket (someone else's) with paint. In short, I decided not to bother with textured paint, bought two buckets of 3 kg Teks front universal for 300 rubles and painted the walls on the loggia. I didn't even tint, but left it white. Maybe he should have added color so that there was not too much mark, but here again it was necessary to know exactly how much paint to take. In short, what's done is done.
I share my humble research.
1) When it comes to covering a thin layer, such as shagreen, then the surface must be carefully leveled, otherwise all the irregularities will be visible.
2) The thicker the paint layer, the more prominent the texture. I did not find a large-cell foam roller, so I took an almost smooth one, which is designed for a water emulsion. I applied a thin layer of paint and rolled it with a roller in different directions. It turned out to be shagreen - I personally like it more than large and less paint consumption.
As for the walls with irregularities, then there probably is only to blurt out the Provence with a trowel, and even then, you can ruin not cheap material. It is better to carefully level the surface beforehand and not engage in nonsense.
