The fabric turned out to be very beautiful, so a dress for the future queen was also sewn from it, and the fabric itself began to be called after the city in which it was invented - tulle.

Now a little about grammar. The word "tulle" in French is masculine, and accordingly in Russian it retains its gender. Therefore, it is correct to say "tulle is he". The feminine usage - by analogy with the word "fabric" - is incorrect. In some regions, this thin fabric is called curtains. The origin of the word is different, but it means the same type of fabric.

What are they made of

Initially, tulle was made by hand from the finest silk, linen or cotton threads. This fabric was the privilege of the rich. Much later, machines appeared on which cotton material was made. It was already much cheaper. After they came up with synthetic threads, the assortment became more diverse, and the prices were more affordable.

Today silk is rarely used due to its high price, and cotton and linen are used only in combination with synthetic fibers. In its pure form, natural fibers quickly become dirty, turn gray, and even lose their shape and change their size during washing (shrinks or stretches).

Modern tulle is made mainly from polyester, polyamide and blended fibers. To obtain a smooth surface, polyamide threads are used. They are strong and resilient. Patterns on such a base are applied using polyamide threads. They are soft and look good in embroidery.

Tulle is of several types:

• Organza. Elastic, rather stiff fabric, which is light and transparent at the same time. Can be glossy or matte. Creates elastic folds when draped.

How to choose tulle in the bedroom

How to create folds

Most often, tulle is draped in the bedroom. This makes the interior lighter, more comfortable, creates a mood for relaxation. But how do you make the curtain fold? There are several ways. For folds shallow in depth, use a special curtain tape. It is available in any sewing store, has two or more threads, which are then pulled together to form folds.

It is sewn at the very top of the canvas. The line is made at the top and bottom of the tape. Then the threads are pulled together, achieving the desired effect. Just remember, for the folds to be expressive, the width of the original fabric should be at least twice the width of the window.
