Types of modern curtains
It is most convenient to classify them by type:
- Roman - easy to use, take up a minimum of space, easily adjust the flow of light.
- Rolled. More practical. The top rolls up into a small roll, which, if necessary, unfolds to the bottom, can be easily combined with eyelet or classic curtains.
- Austrian. Having a lot of assemblies, they are not very practical, but very attractive.
- French. They differ in the presence of frills, inherent mainly in Provence style kitchens.
- Japanese. Straight panels to the floor or windowsill (a tube is inserted at the bottom), each moving along its own guide.
- Classic. They consist of two parts, a short upper one on the cornice (ceiling or wall) and additional sliding curtains from the middle of the window.
You can choose to match the wall, make them multi-colored, but it is desirable that at least some of the colors be repeated in other objects.
In spacious, tall kitchens, Austrian curtains look good. In combination with solid wood or wood grain furniture, they create an atmosphere of stability and prosperity. The principles of color selection here are classic, light-colored translucent or dense fabrics in a color close to the color of the furniture.
Although, if the room turns out to be very calm, you can add bright colors. These can be bright plain curtains, flowers, or "edible" themes: usually fruits or vegetables, but there are exceptions.

Determine the length
Now about the choice of length. Most often, modern curtains are made short, long to the windowsill. Firstly, it is practical, the fabric is less dirty. Secondly, rarely a housewife can say that the kitchen is spacious. Therefore, they are trying to "master" every meter of space and the window sill as well. With short curtains it is, perhaps, with long curtains much more complicated. But again, there are exceptions and long curtains and / or tulle are hung in the kitchen.
You will need long curtains if the room has a balcony. Anyway, on the one hand. In this case, they often take one set of short ones, and the second long ones. Only in this version the design of the kitchen window with a balcony door looks organic. Moreover, it is not at all necessary that their design be the same. The fabric should be the same, and the models may be different. The most common combination is Roman or rolled with eyelets.
Multilevel Japanese curtains look good on a window with a balcony door. They can be made in different lengths and it will all look good.
Kitchen curtains for a small window
When choosing curtains for a small kitchen, regardless of the style of decoration, light colors are preferred. And also the priority is simple laconic forms: folds, draperies, ruffles. This is great, but they kind of "eat up" the space, loading it up. Hence, the main choice is roll, Roman, Japanese, and classic ones are well suited for a rustic interior.
Since the window area is small, it is advisable to let in light as much as possible. Therefore, they choose from light, translucent fabrics. In this case, tulle or organza curtains are what you need. For window design ideas in a small kitchen, see the following photos.
Curtains are hung on a narrow window so that thick curtains, if any, are outside the window frame when open. A horizontal pattern - narrow stripes - can visually expand it.
Filament curtains
There is one more type of window decoration, which is difficult to attribute to any type. They have appeared recently, and are considered new. They quickly gain popularity as they look magical both on their own and in combination with other fabrics. We are talking about thread (thread, rope) curtains. As the name implies, they consist of separate threads that are fastened together only at the very top. Everything else is loosely hanging strands into which beads, bugles, etc. can be woven.
They are interesting in themselves. They can be tied, creating an openwork pattern against the background of another fabric. And you can change it at least every day according to your mood.
As you can see, there are a lot of modern kitchen curtains. Diverse styles, colors, fabrics, cuts. All this allows you to solve any problem, satisfy every taste.
